Bistroteque Pop-up overlooking the Olympic Site.

It's still a good 2 years away but excitement is building about the Olympics coming to our very own East London, you can even spot the main stadium taking shape at the end of my road. When I saw the fabulous guys at Bistroteque were hosting pop up restaurant Studio East 230ft high over the site, I just had to go sneak a peek at what’s going down there with a few friends in tow.

Wow, what a great evening! Greeted by men in hard hats at Stratford International Station we were taken through the building site to the roof of the not-yet-finished Westfield Shopping Centre for an exclusive view over the whole Olympic site.

We each grabbed a cocktail and headed over to soak up the view in the beautiful sunshine. Seeing the huge Olympic site mid construction with the panoramic backdrop of the vast city of London made me feel extremely proud and I’m sure the 2012 games will be an experience of a lifetime.

The temporary structure that housed the pop up restaurant was designed by Architects Carmody Groarke and made entirely from recycled materials from around the site. Construction lights (bulbs protected by a yellow wire guard) were  grouped together to form amazing chandeliers and industrial planks made up the tables. The use of raw & industrial type materials really emphasised the urban theme.

There for just 3 short weeks, we feel very lucky to have been part of Studio East Dining and experienced a magical evening. GG x
